recently ive been stuttering more. what causes this and what is a good solution besides therapy?
I just turned 16. I dont stutter as much reading something aloud as I do speaking (not reading from something) to other people. my stutter isnt terrible, but I still dont like it and it can be embarrassing time to time. its not always stuttering too; its also saying the wrong word, mixing words together, saying “um” quite a bit, etc.
Is there some sort of known disorder or something that is linked to stuttering more as I gradually get older?
and maybe if theres a good solution you have that could help a little I guess. it would be more helpful if you could help me find out what is going on with me cause if me and my mom can find the symptom, then we can find a solution from there.
thanks.
oh yeah, to add onto the list of things I do that are similar to stuttering; I slur some words sometimes. and other times it can be difficult to get words out of my mouth. the percentage of this happening gets higher if I am tired.

It sounds like you have a lot of stress in your life. Stress and anxiety can cause your thoughts to race and also cause you to slur your words whenever you speak. Might I suggest that you meditate, do yoga, take deep breaths, exercise, get more sleep, cease all contact with negative people in your life and things like these. I guarantee you that in time things will improve for you.
I’m not a pro. but I have some things you might consider - there’s a ligament under the tongue that’s can be surgically ‘relaxed’ or instead try exercising it, plus eat hard, crunchy fruits and vegetables that allow you to chew (masticate) more. If that’s not it you should watch your emotions (slow down) and keep your enthusiasm in check. I also seem to slur sometimes and people don’t understand what I am trying to say and I was thinking it’s from hitting my head or the fact that whatever is being said is inappropriate or can be negated (mental doubts).
